About Aruba Aruba – a warm, sunny island with smiling happy people, glorious beaches and plenty to do. It almost sounds too good to be true, but Aruba really is all that and much more – it’s the perfect Caribbean getaway. Located just 15 miles off the coast of Venezuela, Aruba’s 70 sq miles are made up of pristine white beaches, a rugged and wild northeast coast, and a desert-like interior. Activities Apart from lounging on one of the perfect beaches, there is plenty to see and do with year-round activities for children, a huge choice of watersports, an offshore island to explore, as well as fishing, scuba diving and some excellent shopping. For families, activity highlights include sea trekking with an underwater helmet, mountain biking across the national park, kayaking, quadracing or a trip on the Atlantis Submarine. There are fascinating caves to explore, jeep safari tours, horseback adventures and even a small mountain to climb, complete with its own steps. Aruba’s waters offer some of the best diving in the world with wall and reef diving, as well as plenty of sunken World War II wrecks to discover. It’s also a great place for snorkelling where coral formations, and even some wreck sites, are visible from the surface, where visibility is often at 100ft. De Palm Island, located just a five minute ferry ride off the mainland, has seas just full of spectacular coral formations and colourful blue parrot fish which will feed from your hand. And if that’s not enough, there is always deep sea fishing or a round of golf to play at Tierra Del Sol, the island’s first world class golf course. Ideal for couples looking for a romance break, Aruba has it all with idyllic beaches, crystal clear waters for swimming and sunset or moonlit cruises to finish a perfect day. Weddings are a speciality on the island and it’s a favourite with honeymooners. Nightlife Life at night in Aruba is fun and varied with most musical tastes catered for. Modern music mixes with salsa and merengue in that typical laid back charm that seems to make the island flow. Events A fun packed events calendar starts the year with the month-long festivities that mean carnival time and celebrations just keep on going through to December, with music, food and art festivals, as well as competitions such as the Salsaruba Salsa World Championship, a first for the island in 2005. Shopping Dedicated shoppers will not be disappointed with Aruba’s fantastic, modern and bright shopping malls, most of which are located in Oranjestad.
Luxury items include perfume, linens, jewellery, cameras, designer fashions, crystal and china and, although Aruba is not a duty free port, the duty is low enough for some excellent buys. Accommodation There is also a fantastic range of accommodation; whether you’re travelling with a toddler, want a secluded romantic hideaway, or fancy a pampering spa resort, Aruba can offer the ideal place to stay.
